Fire Junco
By J. L. Thomason
Photography. The dark-eyed junco persist through the winter at elevation and in the ice and snow in the Southern Rockies. Frequently adorned with a rust back they seem otherwise drab. But the fiery armature of feathers can standout as a marker of this small birds robust fierceness. Frequently pecking along the icy roadways here the junco takes a perch for the sake of preening.
